The Helpline House Capital Campaign

Building a Better Bainbridge

Helpline House has been a beacon of hope on Bainbridge Island for over five decades, providing groceries, counseling, and vital resources to our neighbors in need. Today, one in ten islanders relies on our services each year, reflecting how quickly local needs have grown. Rising costs for food, housing, and medical care have made it harder for families and seniors to stay afloat.

Mission

In response, we’ve launched a $12 million Capital Campaign to create a new Helpline House. The planned 12,750 sq. ft. facility will be better equipped to address both immediate and long-term challenges. Our goal is to preserve the compassion that defines Bainbridge Island while expanding our capacity to serve.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors

At the core of Helpline House is a simple but powerful principle: neighbors helping neighbors. By blending proven social services with a personal, neighborly touch, Helpline House is a lifeline for those facing life’s toughest challenges—and a reflection of our community’s generous heart.

“When I was a child, my mother and I received a lot of support from Helpline House. I'll always remember those kind people.”

Serving the Next 50 Years

Our new facility will be purpose-built to serve Bainbridge Island for the next 50 years. This isn’t just an upgrade in appearance—it’s a critical step toward delivering deeper, more meaningful services.

Bringing this Dream to Life

Through a balanced approach to major funders of all kinds, we have raised much of our goal to fund both construction and essential project costs. Now, we’re asking our community to help us raise the remaining dollars ensuring that this project truly reflects the core values of neighbors helping neighbors.

We’ve Moved—Just Around the Corner!

Helpline House is now temporarily located at 901 Hildebrand Lane, near the north end of Ericksen Avenue, for approximately 12 months during the construction of our new facility. Thanks to a lease partnership with Clark Construction and the support of our board and volunteer Michael Wright, we continue to offer uninterrupted services to the community.

“As we transition to our new space, we remain deeply committed to serving Bainbridge Island with care and compassion,” said Maria Metzler, Executive Director. “We’re excited about what’s ahead and grateful to stay connected during this time of growth.”

Closed: Christmas, New Year's Day, MLK Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Fourth of July, Labor Day and Thanksgiving weekend.
